Towards Zero Energy:
Photovoltaics - a technology whose time has come?
Thursday 9 July, 6.30 pm
Towards Zero Energy seminars are an important focus on available, innovative manufactured, building solutions for 21st Century buildings that encourage the use of renewable energy sources and reduce our carbon footprint. In this seminar we will preview the technical innovations that are being introduced into a major project for domestic sustainable construction.
The live project initiated by the School of the Built Environment at Nottingham University will form the basis for an extensive monitoring programme which will test and assess the effectiveness of the construction solutions. A site has been provided for the construction of five individual houses each being designed and built to achieve a low energy solution, utilising different technologies.
The seminar will focus on the house that has been created by BASF featuring high levels of thermal insulation and incorporating energy efficient products from Rehau and other contributing manufacturers. The brief was to achieve an energy efficient solution using the principles of 'PassivHaus' design, at an affordable price with low energy consumption that exceeded Level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes
