Towards Zero Energy:
Photovoltaics - a technology whose time has come?
Thursday 9 July, 6.30 pm
As a complimentary event to the successful PIA series of Towards Zero Energy CPD seminars, REHAU, would like to invite you to a free breakfast CPD Seminar about:
Ground to Air Heat Exchangers, or Earth Tubes
Designing to achieve passive heating and cooling in schools and commercial projects without the use of airconditioning
8.am for 8.30 am start on Thursday 27th November 2008
at The Building Centre. 26 Store Street. London WC1E 7BT
Following REHAU's successful award of their largest ever contract for its prize winning AWADUKT Thermo ground - air heat exchanger system. Mike Moseley BEng hons, REHAU's project manager will demonstrate the design process of the project, highlight the contribution to energy saving by the earth tubes and show some of the early installation shots. The seminar will be approximately 30 minutes long and there will follow an opportunity to discuss the project and ask questions.
PROJECT INFORMATION.
The installation to provide a renewable source of energy is
currently underway at the new Queen Elizabeth's School in
Wimborne, Dorset, which is being built as part of the DfES
Building Schools for the Future (BSF) One School Pathfinder
programme.
Dorset County Council has secured additional funding for the
school to become a Demonstration Project for Sustainable
Schools and the AWADUKT Thermo system, which will deliver
substantial energy savings on both heating and cooling.
Around 3,500m of REHAU's 250mm diameter polypropylene
pipework is being installed in grids 1.5m below ground
underneath three of the school's blocks and will use the
natural temperature of the ground at that depth to pre-heat or
pre-cool ventilation air before it is delivered into the school.
The temperature of the air drawn through the
network of pipes will be increased by up to 9oC in
winter and reduced by as much as 14o C in summer,
providing not only a more comfortable internal
environment for the staff and pupils during the warm
summer months but also reducing the energy
required for space heating in winter.
The main contractor for the project is Carillion,
concept architects are Feildon
Clegg Bradley and consultant
engineers and architects are
Mouchel.
