PIA AT THE LOWRY
This is our first ever seminar to be held out of London and marks an important
step for us in seeking to widen our membership base.
Our Towards Zero Energy seminars are an important focus on available, innovative
manufactured, building solutions for 21st Century buildings that encourage the use
of renewable energy sources and reduce our carbon footprint.
In this sixth seminar in our series we are once again reviewing the technical innovations
that are being introduced by two of our members into a major project for domestic
sustainable construction.
The live project initiated by the School of the Built Environment at
Nottingham University will form the basis for an extensive monitoring programme
which will test and assess the effectiveness of the construction solutions.
A site has been provided for the construction of five individual houses each being
designed and built to achieve a low energy solution, utilising different technologies.
The first of the houses to be completed was created by our member BASF, opened
on 30 January 2008 for the press and public launch and featured at the recent 2008 Ecobuild Exhibition in London.
Our seminar will focus on the BASF house which features high levels of thermal insulation and incorporates energy efficient products from Rehau and other contributing manufacturers.
The brief was simply to achieve an energy efficient solution using the principles of
‘PassivHaus’ design, at an affordable price with low energy consumption,
that exceeded Level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes.
The seminar is organised to start at 8.30am with various presentations that will run
until 10.00am to be followed by a period for questions and discussions and finishing
at approximately 10.30am
